Huawei Watch Fit 2 Vs Huawei Band 7: Which Will You Choose

I would like to present to you my personal comparison between two of my most preferred smartwatches, the Huawei Band 7 and Huawei Watch Fit 2. As someone who has been using both of these devices for more than six months now, I can confidently say that they are both equally impressive in terms of their overall quality and features.

In the end, when comparing the two smartwatches, the Huawei Watch Fit 2 wins the battle 3-0 with 3 draws. The final score may appear one-sided, but after delving into my detailed analysis, it is clear that the Huawei Band 7 is a strong contender in the market. Here is my final results

The results above indicate that both devices achieved a tie in three categories that were tested. This clearly demonstrates the impressive capabilities of the Huawei Band 7 when compared to its high-end counterpart. The Huawei Band 7 is a formidable competitor in the market.

If you are not familiar with my articles, one thing that you should know is that I do not compare device specifications. Instead, I compare devices based on my own personal user experience using my own testing methods. While there are plenty of websites out there that can provide you with device specifications, that is not what I provide. What I can offer you are my final results and an explanation of why I reached them

Smart Features : Winner Huawei Watch Fit 2

One of the most awesome feature on the Huawei Watch Fit 2 is music control

When it comes to smart features, Huawei devices tend to be fairly weak against some of the leading brands out there in the market. If you are not familiar with the term smart features, it’s the term that I like to use when a watch has built in features that can be used in your day to day life and provide some form of automation to make life easier for you. Im talking about features like quick reply messaging, gesture control, find your phone, contactless payments and music control. These are examples of smart features, however here are my results for this category.

Final Score7/158/15

As you can see that the Huawei watch fit 2 wins with a single point in the smart feature category. The reason why the Watch Fit 2 has the edge over the Band 7 is because the Watch Fit 2 has contactless payment (Huawei Pay). Huawei pay in my experience is fairly reliable here in New Zealand which is pretty good.

If you want to know more about the smart feature ability of the Huawei devices, I have created a fully detailed article, so I will provide a link to that so you can get an idea how the device compares.

If you are wondering how both devices compare in the market when it comes to smart features, I do have some of my testing results to share with you.

There is a catch when it comes to smart features is that it’s a massive battery drainer. The higher the rating affects the watch’s battery life economy. I find that the devices that sit between 6 to 10 is the perfect balance of smart features versus battery life economy.

Health Features : Draw

Heart rate zones, an important feature that can help you train within your limits depending on your fitness level. The above image shows I was doing a recovery workout

When it comes to health tracking, both devices offer the same experience. The health features that are available to you are follows

  • sleep tracking
  • snore detection
  • menstrual cycle
  • breathing (stress management feature)
  • all day heart rate tracking
  • SP02 measure at demand.

I personally use the sleep tracking and snore tracking a lot because it’s one of the things I want to have in a watch. It’s reasonably good, but could be better because the snore detection recordings is only available for a limited time and then it’s deleted because it takes up a lot of disk space.

For what it’s worth, the health features are reasonable and isn’t quite at the same level as Fitbit, Withing’s, Whoop or Apple Watch, but good enough to provide a general idea of your overall health. Please note that the Band 7 and the Watch Fit 2 are not medical devices and should not be used to treat illness’s.

Third Party App Ability : Draw

App gallery Huawei Watch Fit 2

When it comes to third party app ability, both devices offer the same experience. Let me share with you my final results and then I will go into detail for each

Direct Method0/50/5
In direct method5/55/5
Final Result7/157/15

App Store : 2 out of 5

The Huawei app gallery isn’t quite at the same level as google play, apple store or Garmin connect. In my experience those three app galleries that I mentioned are top notch, but I would put Garmin connect above them all because it can adapt to IOS, Android, HarmonyOS.

In order to transfer apps to your device you must own a android or Huawei phone. If you own a Apple phone, it will not work, which is why in my opinion it deserves it’s 2 out of 5 score

Direct Method: 0 out of 5

If you are not familiar with the direct method, it’s a way to control your device directly from your watch and not from your phone. Unfortunately both devices do not have this ability which is why I have given it a 0 out of 5 rating.

One other crucial thing to mention also is that to operate a third party app directly from your watch, is that you must own a Huawei phone. Make sure you are aware of this before you buy.

In Direct Method: 5 out of 5

The indirect method is where you share your tracking data in the Huawei Health app with a third party app. You must allow permission for the third party app to access it, but it’s a fantastic way to incorporate third party apps.

I use Strava and Komoot in my testing and each time I track my activities with Huawei Health, the synchronisation of data happens almost instantly when you end your activity. This is why I have given the device’s a 5 out of 5 rating because in my experience it’s been absolutely fantastic. Very reliable and I can leave my phone at home, then when it’s in Bluetooth range of your phone, the updates begin right away.

How Does Both Devices Rank For Third Party App Ability

So far I had to re test a lot of m watch’s to give you this ranking table but as you can see both devices sit in the middle of the pack. Does it really matter? well in my experience with both devices, you dont really need to use third party apps because the native tracking system within the Huawei Health app is very good.

But then from a full time athlete perspective, this would matter because you probably have a premium level subscription. Garmin device’s get’s top points because it’s ability to adapt to all operating systems like WearOS (Android), HarmonyOS (Huawei) and WatchOS(Apple)

Workout Mode Ability : Huawei Watch Fit 2

One of my favourite features, training load which allows you to train smarter when your body is feeling stressed.

When it comes to tracking your workouts both devices perform very well. Including the Huawei Band 7 which punches well above it’s weight, and more importantly it’s very reliable. However the Huawei Watch Fit 2 performs even better than the Huawei Band 7, let me share with you my test results.

CriteriaBand 7Watch Fit 2
Basic level5/55/5
Intermediate level3/55/5
Advanced level1/52/5
Final score9/1512/15

As you can see the Watch Fit 2 wins the workout mode ability comparison with a 12 out of 15 score which is very impressive indeed. I have already written a full article on both device’s workout mode ability so I will provide links below so you can find out more about it. I will though explain area’s where the Watch Fit 2 gains the advantage in this comparison.

Watch Fit 2 Gains The Advantage at Intermediate Level

The Watch Fit 2 offers everything that the Band 7 does at intermediate level. The Watch Fit 2 has two other features that gives it a 5 out of 5 rating at this level which is GPS tracking and AI coach.

GPS tracking is very reliable, I use this everyday so I will explain more about in the next comparison, however the AI coach is very good. The AI coach the Watch Fit 2 has is running courses, which is a fantastic feature for anyone wanting to improve their running. Im not a runner myself but I had a lot of fun building my running capacity as I progress through the running courses.

Bluetooth sensors Watch Fit 2 can pair with

One of things that the Huawei Band 7 cant do is pair with other Bluetooth sensors. Huawei S Tag isn’t available in New Zealand, but I have used my Polar H10 heart rate strap and it works very well. As for the two other sensors, I will be doing a future cycling article and share my testers experience with you all.

GPS Tracking : Huawei Watch Fit 2

The Watch Fit 2 has built in GPS that is very reliable

When it comes to GPS tracking, The Huawei Watch Fit 2 gains the advantage in this category because it has built in location sensors, and the Huawei Band 7 does not. As far as GPS tracking goes the Watch Fit 2 ranks well up there with some of the best devices in the market. Here are my testing results for the Huawei Watch Fit 2

GPS DifficultyRatingComments
Easy Level5Excellent precision
Hard Level1Not good
Very Hard Level4Very good precision

The Watch Fit 2 has five built in location sensors, however my results are really based on three location sensors because in New Zealand we dont have access to the BeiDou and QZSS navigation systems (China and Japan).

I do have a full article on my GPS testing, and I also explain how I rate a devices accuracy. A score of 9 out of 15 for GPS accuracy isn’t too bad, however the Watch Fit 2 didn’t do too well going through town or a small city block. In fact all the devices that I have tested were consistently the same.

Battery Life : Draw

Huawei Band 7 : Find your phone feature can be very handy

Normally when I do a battery life comparison, it’s broken into two categories, which is battery life economy based on my typical usage, and GPS battery consumption. Since the Huawei Band 7 does not have built in GPS, this comparison will be based on it’s economy only which resulted in a draw. Here are my final results when testing for battery life.

If you are wondering how I got my final rating, well I have tested many smart watch’s lately so I had to use all of that information and generate my own rating table. You will see below how I rate a devices battery life economy. One other thing to mention too is that this rating table gives you an idea what devices are out there in the market.

I have already written a full article about the battery life of both devices. If you want to know more about the test results I will provide a link to both articles

Final Conclusion

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have learnt a lot about both devices and what they have to offer. I do get that this article has a lot of information to absorb, but it’s only like that because both devices offer so much with a small price tag. That is one of the reasons why I love both devices.

Who do I think would get the best value from either device? If you are someone who prioritizes tracking their workouts, you will no doubt get great value. If you are someone who likes to improve on your running, the Watch Fit 2 would be the better option because of the running courses that’s built in the watch.

Thats the general consensus amongst my testers, because they are all very active people and dont really care for anything else. I might need to update this article in future, and find a tester who is different from a active person.

Lastly if you do decide to buy either device because of this article, then good for you. My hope in generating this article is to help you gain some confidence before you decide to buy. Once again thank you so much for reading.
