Huawei Watch Fit 2 : The Same Great Battery Life, With Improved Recharge

The Huawei Watch Fit 2 is the latest fitness tracker from Huawei. It boasts the same great battery life as its predecessor, but with improved recharge times. I was skeptical about whether or not the battery life would be as good as advertised, but I’m happy to say that it is! In this article, I’ll explain why I get only 4-5 days of battery life from the Watch Fit 2, and also share my experience with the improved recharge feature. Stay tuned for more information on the Huawei Watch Fit 2!

The Huawei Watch Fit 2 battery life is 10 days for your typical user and 7 days for a heavy user. In my experience I get 4 days of very heavy use, and I still find it excellent value.

The Battery Life Is The Same As It’s Predecessor

Compared to the original Watch Fit, the battery life is still the same. This is in my opinion is quite amazing as the Watch Fit 2 has some brand new features that will definitely test your battery life of your fitness tracker.

First things first, lets show what features that the Watch Fit 2 has, can drain your battery life.

  • AOD (Always on display) or the number of times the screen is turned on
  • Continuous heart rate tracking (sleep tracking and workout profiles)
  • Route back (brand new feature, using GPS tracking)
  • GPS tracking with various work out profiles
  • Bluetooth calling
  • Text messaging
  • Audio talkback

When you look at the list of features that typically drain your battery life, you have to wonder how does the Watch Fit 2 manage power consumption. All of the features that I have listed are constantly in use, which is very impressive. Bluetooth connectivity doesn’t really use that much power and only uses energy when it’s actually in use. But when it is in use, it can drain battery life so you can have the Bluetooth connection on constantly.

So How Does Huawei Predict Your Typical Battery Life Usage

I prefer fitness trackers over smart watches any day as it suits my lifestyle. But before I share my typical usage of the Watch Fit 2, I want to share Huawei’s typical use of a typical user and a heavy usage user.

Let’s start with the typical usage. Based on the Huawei LAB data to obtain 10 days of usage Huawei predicts you will :

  • 30 minutes of Bluetooth calling per week
  • 30 minutes of audio playback per week
  • Sleep tracking
  • 30 minutes of exercise per week
  • Message notification enabled (50 text messages, 3 calls, 3 alarms per day)
  • Screen turned on (AOD) 200 times per day

When you see this list does it match your typical usage? To be specific does this align with your day to day life? In my opinion Im really skeptical as to how Huawei retrieve this information. But then again it comes down to how you use your Watch Fit 2. If I am comparing this list to my typical usage it’s way below my typical usage which is probably why I get 4 days of battery life.

Now lets take a look at a typical heavy usage. Based on the Huawei LAB data to obtain 7 days of usage Huawei predicts you will :

  • Default settings used
  • 30 minutes of Bluetooth calling per week
  • 30 minutes of audio playback per week
  • Heart Rate TruSleep activated
  • 60 minutes of exercise per week
  • Message notification enabled (50 text messages, 3 calls, 3 alarms per day)
  • Screen turned on (AOD) 200 times per day

When you see this list does it match your typical usage? To be specific does this align with your day to day life?. Looking at this list it’s still well below my typical usage. I would say I use my Watch Fit very different as the heavy user and probably closer to the triple. Even with that being said I’m still getting great battery life out of my Watch Fit.

I think its important to note that these are predictions from Huawei and your experience may vary. I’m curious to see what other people are experiencing in terms of battery life with their Watch Fit. But all in all, I’m still very happy with my purchase and the battery life is great.

In My Experience This is My Typical Battery Usage Profile

I am about to share with you on my typical usage. As mentioned earlier I always prefer a fitness tracker over a smartwatch because it matches my typical lifestyle. So here is my typical usage for the Watch Fit 2 for the week

  • Default settings used
  • 30 minutes of audio playback per week
  • Heart Rate TruSleep activated 8-9 hours of sleep tracking
  • 490 minutes of exercise per week
  • 120 minutes of GPS tracking, auto walk activation as I walk to the gym
  • Screen turned on (AOD) 200 times per day during workouts
  • Using the breathing exercises feature (to reduce stress, control heart rate when I feel too stressed)

So this is my typical usage and with this I tend to get at least 4 days of battery life. So when you look at my typical usage does this align with yours’s?. I also forgot to mention that this is my typical usage for every second week. For every other week this is my typical usage

  • Default settings used
  • 30 minutes of audio playback per week
  • Heart Rate TruSleep activated 8-9 hours of sleep tracking
  • 420 minutes of exercise per week
  • 60 minutes of GPS tracking, auto walk activation as I walk to the gym
  • 30 minutes of running (includes Huawei Trusport running ability, GPS tracking)
  • Screen turned on (AOD) 200 times per day during workouts
  • Using the breathing exercises feature (to reduce stress, control heart rate when I feel too stressed)
  • Hiking (this includes heart rate tracking and GPS tracking) 150 minutes per week
  • Review my workout status. I often check my training load to decide what I would do on workout days. Such as high intensity or recovery workouts.

With the above list I tend to get 4 days battery life. Even with 4 day’s battery life I am still happy with it. The major difference is really the GPS tracking. If you are using GPS tracking in conjunction with heart rate tracking, it will drain your battery fast. Then again it is still better than what a smart watch can offer.

Does your typical heavy usage align with mines?. I have to admit I was really surprised at the battery life I was getting. I really expected it to be lower than what I was getting.

But overall I am still very happy with the Watch Fit and its battery life. If you are in the market for a fitness tracker I would highly recommend the Watch Fit. You wont be disappointed.

My Experience Of The Fast Charge

According to the label, Huawei say that you can charge the Watch Fit 2 for 5 minutes and get a full days usage. To achieve this it depends on certain conditions, but then again there is no guarantee that it can happen. The conditions are as follows

  • Atmospheric temperature is around 25 degrees Celsius
  • 3% battery life left
  • Watch is completely off
  • Humidity is 45 to 80 percent.

With these types of conditions it does not reflect what conditions are currently experienced by you. It all comes down to where you are in the world as conditions are different. The only other thing I can think of is if you are in a meeting or something and you’re watch is about to die, then the fast charge will come in handy. All you have to do is find an outlet and put your watch on charge for five minutes.

If you are planning to do a workout after the fast charge, then the Watch Fit 2 wont have any juice to track your workout.

Final Conclusion

So in conclusion, the Watch Fit still has great battery life. I’m honestly surprised that with the new model, they were able to keep the same battery life. I think it’s a great move on Huawei’s part. As for the improved recharge.

I hope that my experience with the Huawei Watch Fit 2 has given you some insight about the battery life. I have no issues about the battery life. All though it is said that it can last up to 7 days battery life for a heavy user, I tend to get at least 4 days of battery life. Even though I dont quite get the 7 days as a heavy user, Im still very happy with days.
