Huawei Watch Fit 2 : Smart Feature Ability is Very Good

In terms of smart features, Huawei devices are able to hold their own. They offer a good balance of basic and intermediate level features. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of smart feature ability, it is something that many modern-day smartwatches and fitness trackers have that allows for some degree of automation to make life easier.

In this article, I will be providing you with my testing results when it comes to smart features. I was certainly impressed with the final results. Here is how the Huawei Watch Fit 2 performed

LevelScore
Beginner5/5
Intermediate3/5
Advanced2/5
Final Score10/15

In the end the Huawei Watch Fit 2 scores a 9 out of 15, which isn’t a bad score to say the least. The great thing about the device is that it performed reliably and consistently. I will however go over each category, how I score for each category and more importantly, what I look for in a smart watch.

The Huawei Watch Fit 2 Gets a Perfect Score at Basic Level

Huawei Watch fit 2: Timer is very useful when you need to track time

As a bare minimum a fitness tracker or smart watch should have these types of smart features. The good thing is, is that the Huawei Watch Fit 2 does have them and performs reliably and consistently. Here is a list of things that I test for at this level.

  • Ability to find your phone
  • Ability to set alarm or timer
  • Ability to reply to messages with preset messages
  • Do not disturb ability

Although the features performed reliably and consistently, there are some drawbacks that you need to know based on my experience.

Ability to reply to messages : This feature works really well, and if you have never owned a Huawei device before, you cant send a custom message back to the sender. instead you can only use the preset messages. There is about 20-25 preset messages you can use to reply back or you can add one of your own incase the preset messages doesn’t quite suit.

Smart Features can only be activated manually : All of the basic features work, but you can only activate it manually. If the Huawei Watch Fit 2 had a digital assistant like Alexa or Google assistant then you can speak into the watch to activate automatically, which is a real pity.

Basic level verdict : Based on my testing and user experience I do think the Huawei Watch Fit 2 deserves its rating of 5 out of 5 at basic level. Just be aware of the two key findings that I have just mentioned. It always comes down to user preference.

Intermediate Level : 3 out of 5

Huawei Watch Fit 2 : Music control is very useful

When it comes to intermediate level smart features, the Huawei Watch Fit 2 doesn’t quite have all the features at this level. There are a lot of things that I test for at this level, which gives you an idea what devices are out there in the market that offer these features. The table below is a summary of features that are available and not available, but I will be sharing my experience with the features that are available only.

AvailableNot Available
Ability to answer phone callsAbility to save battery life
Ability to make phone calls*Ability to improve time management
Ability to control musicContactless payment*
Ability to lock out waterAbility to contact emergency contact*

Ability to answer phone calls : I have used this feature a lot and I can assure you that it works reliably and consistently. Your phone must be in Bluetooth range for this to work as it uses your phones network to answer your calls. You do have the option to answer your phone calls directly into the watch, Bluetooth paired headphones or your mobile phone. It’s such a very nice feature to have when you have options like that.

Ability to make phone calls : I can assure you that this feature performs reliably and consistently. The only catch is that your phone must be in Bluetooth range so it can make a phone call using your mobile network. The other catch is you can only have 20 contacts, so just be aware of this limitation. In my personal experience 20 contacts is plenty, but each to their own.

Ability to control Music : I use this feature every day so it definelty performs reliably and consistently. The great thing about this feature is the slightly bigger screen than the Huawei Band 7, it’s very clear and interacting with the volume works well. The device also has the ability to store music on the device, and connect to your phones media player when using streaming platforms like Spotify.

Ability to lock out water : When you are tracking any water activities, the Watch Fit 2 will go into lock out mode. When you are done push the side button (not under water) and the device will go into normal mode. There is a additional feature in the settings which I recommend you use is water mode, which will tell you to to shake your device in a certain direction to take away any buildup of moisture.

Intermediate Level Verdict : Although there were only three features to test for at this level, they all performed very reliably which deserves it’s rating of 3 out of 5. I still believe that this is a fair rating considering the number of features that aren’t available.. As for contactless payment, my device here in New Zealand does not have it but other versions in the Market may have this feature, so check the feature list if it’s available.

Advanced Level : 2 out of 5

The Watch Fit 2 has a built in geomagnetic sensor which allows you to have a digital compass, perfect for orienteering

Just like the intermediate phase when testing, the Huawei Watch Fit 2 doesn’t quite have all the features, so I will be sharing my experience with two features at advanced level. The table below shows you what I test for at this level, including what available and what’s not.

AvailableNot Available
Ability to provide direction (similar to google maps, Petal maps)Live stream to devices
Ability to provide a magnetic compassAbility to use gestures to quick access features
Smart touch ability(interact with watch for disabled persons)
Ability to measure air pressure
Ability to connect to smart devices
Ability to provide assistance (google, Alexa or Bixby)

Ability to provide direction : The Huawei Watch Fit 2 has petal maps which is very similar to Google map. During my testing, petal maps does work with my Android device, however if you have a apple device, I dont think the feature would work for you. The feature does work and reliably but I am a little sceptical of it’s usefulness. You do have the option to navigate via car, bike or walking. In my test I chose walking, and most of the time I was looking at my phone more than my watch which is the reason why I am sceptical of it’s usefulness. I will be doing a full article on this to show you some of the things I went through when testing.

Ability to provide a magnetic compass : A real handy feature to have for the keen outdoorsman, all you need to do is calibrate your watch by moving your arm in a figure eight for a few times and you are good to go. I dont use this feature as much because the Route back feature works really well, but it’s reliable enough to do what you require.

How Does The Huawei Watch Fit 2 Rank in The Market

The Watch Fit 2 has so many watch face designs. This one is my favourite

I have started to re test a lot of the devices that I currently have and started to build on the rating table. Please note that these results were given a score using the same system for this article just to generate consistency in my testing. Here is my ranking table.

As you can see the Huawei Watch Fit 2 sits in the middle of the pack which is still very good. To be honest I think a device that has a score between 9 to 11 would be the most useful. Anything that’s smart feature heavy live the brands in my top four, you wont use anyway

Final Conclusion

Intermediate feature water lock : helps you shake the device in the right direction after water activities

Thank you for reading and I hope you have learnt a lot about the smart feature ability of the Huawei Watch Fit 2. If you are somebody that was looking to buy the Watch Fit 2 based on it’s smart feature ability, then I hope I have answered all of your questions.

I can only speak for the version that I have in New Zealand, and some places in the world have extra features like smart battery life, NFC pay and more free watch faces so keep that in mind when you do decide to buy.

As I reflect on the final score, I wasn’t expecting the Watch Fit 2 to score this high and a 10 out of 15 is a very good score. I like to think that based on my testing regime, a device that scores between 9 to 11 are the most ideal devices anyway.

Smart features can take a massive toll on your battery life, and any device that are smart feature heavy have a very weak battery life and you will end up charging your watch every day. Whereas a device that is ranked between a 9 to 11 have really good battery life, and have enough smart features to make life easier for you.

In the end, the Huawei Watch Fit 2 deserves its final rating of 10 out of 15. In my opinion I think if it had a air pressure sensor and a digital assistant, the Watch Fit 2 would be even better. The air pressure sensor would be ideal for the outdoors for any changes in air pressure that could lead to weather changes. As for the digital assistant, you could activate these smart features by calling rather than doing it manually. Thank you for reading.
