Huawei Band 7 : 10 Tips to Maintain Waterproof Resistance

Huawei just announced their newest fitness tracker, the Huawei Band 7. It is successor to the popular Huawei Band 6. One of the big questions people have been asking is whether or not the Huawei Band 7 is waterproof.

The answer is yes! The Huawei Band 7 has a water resistance rating of 5ATM. In this article, we will discuss some tips on how to maintain your water resistance rating and what you can do if your device does get wet.

Water Rating is Unchanged From It’s Predecessor

As you know the Huawei Band 7 is a lot sleeker than its predecessor. That comes with some challenges. The main component that protects the electrical parts of your watch must be water resistant and dust proof.

The 2 materials that can cause some serious damage to your fitness tracker. However with some clever tinkering, Huawei has managed to maintain the same standard of water resistance and dust resistance as its predecessor.

The water resistance rating is important, because it will give you an indication of how well your device will be protected against the elements. The Huawei Band 7 has a water resistance rating of 50 metres, which means it can withstand splashes, rain, and accidental submersion.

Does the Huawei Band 7 Still Complies With Water Resistance ISO 22810:2010?

Yes. Just like its predecessor, the Huawei Band 7 still complies with the ISO water resistance standard 22810:2010. A big selling point for the Huawei Band series has always been it’s water resistance and the ability to track your swimming workouts.

If you are not familiar with ISO, ISO stands for International Standards Organisation. The organisation has been in place for a very long time, and they provide a standard across the board and provide transparency. Especially in industries that are in manufacturing, medical, electronics etc.

The methods of testing water resistance are also transparent. That way if you decide to buy a fitness tracker, water resistance is important to you. You can look up the testing regime and see how they test water resistance.

Tips to maintain The Huawei Band 7 Level Of Water Resistance

The tips that I am going to share with you are very simple. I also discovered some other things that can reduce the Huawei Band 7 water resistance.

1. Don’t submerge watch in Warm Water’s

When the Huawei Band 7 is submerged in warm water’s, the housing that protects the electrical circuitry can expand. Once expansion occurs water or moisture can get through. In order for the expansion to occur, the Huawei Band 7 has to be under water for some time.

It may not happen right away, but if you consistently do the watch’s ability to resist diminishes each time. Under the ISO 22810:2010 water resistance standard, the Huawei Band 7 does pass the thermal expansion test. However please refrain from doing this too many times.

2. Avoid Watch Being In Warm Environments

A warm environment example would be a sauna. Once the watch is exposed to warm environments thermal expansion can occur, just like the warm water’s example mentioned earlier.

Once thermal expansion takes place, moisture can enter the housing protecting the electrical circuitry. Under the ISO 22810:2010 water resistance standard, the Huawei Band 7 does pass the thermal expansion test. However please refrain from doing this too many times.

3. Avoid watch Being in Warm Exposure’s

For this example is where your watch is left and exposed to direct sun light for long periods. Over time the heat from the sun can cause slight thermal expansion. Do this consistently and the watch’s water rating will diminish over time. Under the ISO 22810:2010 water resistance standard, the Huawei Band 7 does pass the thermal expansion test.

4. Avoid Swimming in Salt Water

When swimming in salt water, it’s important to rinse the watch off afterwards with freshwater. The salt water can cause corrosion if not rinsed off. This will lead to the degradation of the materials that make up your Huawei Band 7 and potentially reduce its water resistance rating over time.

5. Avoid Any Exposures to Perfumes or Lotions

When using perfume or lotions, make sure to allow it to dry before putting on the watch. If you don’t the chemicals can interact with the materials of your Huawei Band 7 and potentially reduce its water resistance rating over time.

6. Avoid activities with Immersion Over Time

Im talking about activities such as scuba diving and snorkeling. The pressure from the water can cause the housing to slightly deform. This will lead to small gaps and once again allow water or moisture in. I don’t recommend doing these activities with your Huawei Band 7

7. Keep It Dry After A Workout

As your body temperature rises, sweat occurs, and often wet your watch. It’s important to dry off your watch as soon as possible after intense workouts. If you don’t the sweat can cause corrosion and potentially reduce its water resistance rating over time.

8. Avoid Any High Velocity Waters

For example water rafting, diving, etc. The pressure from the water can cause the housing to slightly deform. This will lead to small gaps and once again allow water or moisture in. I don’t recommend doing these activities with your Huawei Band 7

9. Avoid Dropping or Hitting Your Watch

If you drop or hit your watch it can potentially damage the housing. This will lead to small gaps and once again allow water or moisture in. I don’t recommend doing these activities with your Huawei Band 7

10. If watch Gets Wet, make sure to dry it off as soon as possible

When your watch gets wet, make sure to dry it off as soon as possible. If you don’t the water can cause corrosion and potentially reduce its water resistance rating over time.

If you do decide to make a claim on your warranty, your request will be declined. There is a mention in the Huawei Band 7 to avoid these types of exposures.

One Other Key Note About The Water Resistance Of The Huawei Band 7

The water resistance testing were done using fresh water. Also the water resistance test’s were conducted in ambient temperature’s. Under the testing guidelines it’s about 24 degrees Celsius.

If you expose the Huawei Band 7 outside of the Testing conditions, the water rating could diminish a lot quicker. Where you are in the world these conditions would be far different. So be weary of these things when you are deciding to expose your Huawei Band 7

Final Conclusion

Is the Huawei Band 7 Waterproof? yes. At 5ATM water resistance it is more than capable of handling your work outs. However if you are a person that who likes to be out doors remember the 10 tips

  • Don’t submerge in warm waters i.e. shower’s, washing dish’s, spa pool
  • Avoid watch being in warm environments i.e. sauna’s
  • Avoid watch being in warm exposures i.e. leaving the watch exposed to the sun
  • Avoid swimming in salt water
  • Avoid any exposure to perfume or lotions i.e. sun screen, skin repellant
  • Avoid activities with immersion over time i.e. snorkeling, diving
  • Dry off after a Intense workout : actually rinse with fresh water first before drying off.
  • Avoid hitting or dropping your watch
  • Dry when wet i.e. any splash of rain or any water rinse with fresh water and dry off.

If you are a swimmer. You can use the Huawei Band 7 to track swimming and use the 10 tips to maintain it’s water resistance. In my opinion, I would say that the swimming motion is similar to high velocity waters. Every time you move the watch under water can diminish the water resistance over time.
