Huawei Band 7 : Is it Worth Buying or Upgrading

I have owned the Huawei Band 7 for a few months now.  I have been testing it and also getting a feel of the user experience.  I now gathered enough research to answer the question.  I promise I will try and keep it as simple as possible.

Is the Huawei Band 7 Worth Buying?, I have thought long and hard about this question and I will answer this question in Two different scenarios.

  • You own a Huawei Band 6, Is it Worth Upgrading? Yes
  • Never owned a Huawei Band, so is it worth Buying? Yes

The two scenarios that I have presented to you are my way of answering this question.  I do think the Huawei Band 7 does have a place in the fitness tracking market.  It needs to align with a person’s personal goals.  Let me explain the above bullet points in further detail.

You Should Upgrade Your Band 6 to A New Huawei Band 7

I do think it is worth upgrading to a Band 7.  In comparison to the Huawei Band 6 there have been a few additions added to the Band 7.  Here is a list of those new additions

  • Running Ability Index (RAI) : which is a feature that will improve your running form
  • Healthy living feature : This feature is useful in developing good habits
  • Training load : Which assesses your body’s stress, allows you to train smarter.
  • Watch is slightly thinner.
  • Faster recharge (super quick)

The above features are my favourite things about the new Huawei Band 7.  Especially the Running Ability Index and training load feature which is part of the new Huawei Trusport analytics.  You can access this information in the new workout status option.  I use these features religiously, because of my limited training time that I have to myself.  So I always like to maximise my efforts in every workout.

The fast recharge is insane.  It takes around 10 minutes to get a full charge at 16% remaining battery life, and in return you get 6 days battery life.  It’s always a bonus when you can charge your wearable device quickly.  

Then there is the Healthy living feature which is a new feature native to Huawei Wearables.  If I was to sum up what this feature does, it’s like a checklist constructed by health experts by Huawei.  It’s all about creating a balance of managing your stress, sleep, and activity mood.  If you already follow a health regime, and have done so consistently for many years then this feature won’t be of value to you.

Never Owned A Huawei Band And Thinking Of Buying? You Should.

From my experience in using the Huawei Band 7, it’s been very good.  So easy to set up, not to mention the functionality.  My favourite things about the Huawei Band 7 is

  • Very simple fitness tracker
  • Workout status (access to running ability index, training load)
  • Excellent battery life
  • Fast recharge battery
  • Excellent price

The only downside I have with the Band 7 is the limited messaging response and answering phone calls.  Apart from that it’s a very good fitness tracker.

For a Few Extra Dollars, Consider Buying the Huawei Watch Fit 2

I thought this may be interesting and it’s something worth mentioning.  I think you will get better value for your money buying the Huawei Watch Fit 2.  The Watch Fit 2 is like a middle tier watch between the band series and the Huawei flagship watch series GT.

So is the Huawei Band 7 worth buying or upgrading? My answer is yes.  You will definitely get great value, especially for its price.  The new features are excellent additions to the band 7 which are

  • Running Ability Index 
  • Healthy living feature 
  • Training load 
  • Faster recharge 

So once again more value added.  Whatever your personal goals you would like to achieve, the Huawei Band 7 is a very easy to use tool to help you along the way.

I also mentioned earlier to consider buying the Watch Fit 2.  Because the Huawei Band 7 sits in the low cost fitness tracker market, I get a feeling it’s at its limit.  I don’t know what the next generation model will offer, but it won’t be very much added value, but it cant overlap the Watch Fit series.
