Fitbit Sense 2 : Is it Worth Buying?

The Fitbit Sense 2 has just been released, and people are already asking if it is worth buying. This new smartwatch comes with a lot of improvements over the original sense, and it has the potential to be a great purchase for anyone looking for a quality fitness tracker. In this article, I will discuss some of the key features of the Sense 2 and give my opinion on whether or not it is worth buying.

Now I have written hundreds of blog articles and given my opinion on watches. But this time if I was to give you a black and white answer I am going to answer the question differently. Im going to construct a user profile on who is better suited in purchasing a Fitbit Sense 2. Lets face it, the Fitbit Sense 2 is the flagship watch that Fitbit has to offer and your will be shelling out a lot of money for it.

I just thought it made sense to create a user profile because to me, if you use at least 50-70% of the features that a watch offers then that’s a good return on your investment in your health. If you only use 5-10% of the features then you have to wonder if you are truly getting any value.

Let’s Look At The Profile I Constructed

The profile that I am constructing is who i think will benefit in buying the Fitbit Sense 2. The last thing you want is to buy a watch and then it didn’t meet your expectations. With that being said, that’s how I am going to answer this very important question. So here is my profile

  • Prioritizes sleep health
  • Prioritizes stress management
  • Basic fitness tracking
  • Healthy cooking tips

My profile maybe short but it covers a lot of things that the Fitbit Sense 2 can offer. Especially the first 3 bullet points. The first 3 bullet points is what the Fitbit Sense does extremely well.

Now if you answered yes to all bullet points or just the first 3 then the Fitbit Sense 2 is worth buying for you. I will explain in detail on each bullet point.

1. Prioritizes Sleep Health

Sleep health is Fitbits strongest feature on offer to date. Not to mention that Fitbit have some of the best sleep tracking watch’s in the market. The original Fitbit Sense was one of them including the Charge 5. I mean to include advanced sleep tracking on a fitness tracker on the Charge 5 has never been done before, which is testament to their research team.

If you are a person who is looking for a smart watch that offers reliable sleep tracking analysis, Fitbit Sense 2 can offer that to you.

There is no further advancement in the newer generation model, and I suspect that the sleep tracking algorithms is still based of it’s predecessor. I mean why change this when you are one of the market leaders right? I think that the decision to not change this was a good one as it would have been a case of, if it isn’t broken don’t fix it.

Sleep health is something that Fitbit does really well, and it’s one of the main reasons I would recommend this watch if you prioritize sleep health. If you are looking for a watch that is going to give you detailed insights into your sleep, look no further than Fitbit sense 2.

2. Prioritizes Stress Management

Another feature that Fitbit is very strong at is stress management. If stress management is high on your prioritize for a smart watch you cant go wrong with the Sense 2. The original Fitbit sense was one of the market leaders in stress management and now that standard has been lifted.

In fact Fitbit developers and researchers have really made strides in further advancing stress management in the Sense 2. So much so, that the new algorithm to detect stress is exclusive to the Sense 2 only. Further to that it is patented which means they have developed something no one else has created yet.

So what makes it that special? Well like I say it is the new algorithm. The new algorithm now collects information from 4 different sources, which is your heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature and electrodermal activity. This is very impressive because Fitbit uses something called sensor fusion. Sensor fusion is where information is collected from different sources and then it is authenticated through the algorithm. Which makes it very accurate because it eliminates any noise when stress is being tracked. Most watches that I have reviewed use 3 different sensors, never have I came across a watch that uses 4 which is next level.

However the new stress management algorithm detects only the physical stress that is applied to you. If the stress management tool is to work you have to log in your emotional stress. This is where that when ever there is a moment you feel anxiety or stress you log your feelings. This is one thing that science cant predict which is human behaviour and that’s where the user has to be honest with themselves.

It’s not hard, there is a nice easy to understand user face that askes the question. It will give a nice pictorial feature that would like to know how you are feeling. From there you can select from a range of emotions that would best sum up your feeling. You can also add in some notes if you feel like it.

3. Basic Fitness Tracking

If you are after a watch that offer’s non scientific basic fitness tracking then the Fitbit Sense 2 is the watch for you. In fact it is something that the Fitbit brand has always offered. I always thought that the Fitbit watches offered something that was simplistic which they have maintained all the time. The Fitbit Sense 2 can offer numerous Fitness tracking options such as

  • Gym workouts
  • Outdoor workouts like walking, running, cycling
  • Recreational workouts like hiking, swimming, kayaking
  • Different sport activities

4. Healthy Cooking Tips For A new Beginner

Well if you are one of the few that decides to purchase the new Fitbit Sense 2 you will get a free 6 month subscription of Fitbit Premium. With that you should take full advantage of the premium subscription like which is meal inspiration. Now if you are a person who is just starting out on your fitness journey or is someone who has no idea how to prepare healthy meals, this is for you.

The meal preparations that Fitbit teaches will be of value to you. it can offer recipes that takes minutes to prepare. The great thing about it is that it comes in a short video tutorial that is so easy to follow. All you really need to do is decide what you feel like and the Fitbit premium should have that covered.

Cooking and meal prep are an essential part in living a healthy lifestyle. If you want to be successful in your fitness journey, you need to make sure that you are eating healthy and nutritious meals. The Fitbit sense can help with that by giving you access to recipes, cooking tips and more.

One other thing to mention is that if you have any dietary needs, meal inspiration can provide recipe’s that are

Especially if you are looking to buy. If the Fitbit Sense 2 is out of your price range then the Fitbit Charge 5 would be a cheaper option and it still meets the profile that I have constructed.

Lastly I just want to mention one of the downsides of the Fitbit Sense 2 is that once your free subscription expires, you will need to renew it if you would like to keep the benefits of sleep and stress tracking.

Another alternative solution would be the Apple Watch Series 7, SE. The Apple watch meets the profile I have constructed without a subscription.
