Garmin Forerunner 55 : Adds Recreational Features For The First Time

Garmin has just released their new fitness tracker, the Forerunner 55. This is the next generation watch to the Forerunner 45, which was released to market in June of 2022. The big difference between these two models is that the Forerunner 55 now includes recreational features.

This is the first time that recreational features have been added to this forerunner series, and Garmin has made sure that they are worth having! In this article, we will explain what each of these features are and what benefits they offer to users. We will also discuss whether or not it is worth upgrading to the Forerunner 55 for recreational purposes alone!

Recreational Features Now Available in This Forerunner 55 Series.

Yes that is correct, recreational features are now available for the first time in this forerunner series. I wrote an article earlier on the Forerunner 255 recreational updates, and it gained a lot of new features. Not to mention they were useful in a sense that the recreational tracking was across four seasons. That’s right: autumn, summer, winter and spring.

As for the Forerunner 55 series, not so much. But then again it may come in handy if you’re the outdoors type. The Forerunner 55 was announced as a multisport watch. However, what Garmin often does is offer features that are outside the core focus of the tracker.

Whether it is a good thing or not, it does appeal to some people. The Garmin Forerunner 55 can be used for other purposes other than multi sport. Because of this I think this is the user experience that Garmin is offering. Creating a watch that becomes part of you, and a watch that is part of your lifestyle outside of training.

This is why I think this feature has been added. We all have a life outside of training, and Garmin wants to be a part of it. The Forerunner 55 is not your average fitness tracker. It has been designed for those who live an active lifestyle, and want a watch that can do more than just track their workouts. That is pretty awesome.

First Feature is Garmin’s Area Calculation, What is it and What Are It’s Benefits?

If you are one who likes to explore the great outdoors, or just curious about how large an area you ran/walked, the Garmin Forerunner 55 has got you covered with their new Area Calculation feature. This feature will take into account the distance and time of your journey to give you the total area covered while out and about.

So, whether you’re trying to see how much ground you covered on your latest hike or want to know exactly how large your running route is, the Area Calculation feature will give you the answer. And if you’re ever curious about how far you’ve travelled in a day, this feature can also come in handy for that too!

There are a few benefits that come with the Area Calculation feature. For one, it can help you to better plan your routes. If you know the area you need to cover, you can map out a route that is the most efficient and avoid getting lost.

Additionally, this feature can also help you to gauge your fitness level as it can show you how much ground you are able to cover in a certain amount of time. This information can be useful for setting goals and measuring your progress.

Second Feature is Garmin’s Hunt & Fish Calendar, What is It and What Are it’s Benefits?

If you love the outdoors, then the Garmin Forerunner 55’s Hunt & Fish Calendar is definitely a feature worth checking out. It basically allows you to schedule your hunting and fishing trips around the best times for those activities.

The benefits of this are two-fold. First, you’ll be able to make sure that you’re always hunting or fishing during the peak times for those activities. Second, you’ll be able to avoid any conflicts that might arise from scheduling trips during the same time periods.

So, if you’re an avid outdoorsman, then the Hunt & Fish Calendar is definitely a feature that you should take advantage of.

Third Feature is Garmin’s Sun And Moon Information, What Is It And What Are It’s Benefits?

The sun and moon information is a new feature on the Forerunner 55 that tells you when the sun will rise and set, as well as the current phase of the moon. This can be useful for people who want to plan their outdoor activities around the best times of day, or for those who are interested in astrology.

There are a few benefits to having this feature on your watch. First, it can help you to plan your day better. If you know when the sun will be up, you can make sure that you’re getting enough Vitamin D by getting outside at the right time. Second, it can help you to avoid being out in the heat of the day when the sun is at its strongest. Finally, it can help you to plan your workouts around the times when you’ll have the most energy.

Overall, the sun and moon information is a helpful addition to the Forerunner 55. It’s not essential, but it’s a nice feature to have if you’re interested in making the most of your day.

The Recreational Features Were Part of Garmin’s Epix Series

So now you know the recreational features, just so you know that these features were normally reserved for the high end Garmin watches. These features are typically on the Epix or Fenix series. Making these features available for a lower priced range watch could appeal to a different market.

The features are helpful and having them on a watch that is more affordable could make the Forerunner 55 a good choice for someone who wants a fitness watch with some extra features. If you’re looking for a gift for the outdoorsman in your life, the Forerunner 55 might be worth considering.

Final Conclusion

So there you have it, the Forerunner 55 is a fitness tracker that has some new recreational features added to it. Which makes it stand out from the older model, the Forerunner 45. The addition of these features may not be for everyone and you may not find them all useful. But they are there and available for those who want to use them.

A recap on those features is:

  • Area Calculation : Can be used to plan your running route, explore a foreign area you never explored and plan for a efficient route, gauge your fitness level and more importantly avoid you getting lost.
  • Hunt & Fish Calendar : Allows you to plan your hunting and fishing times at an ideal time, You will be hunting and fishing at peak times,
  • Sun & Moon Information : Useful to plan a run or walk to avoid hot times (during summer), and lastly plan your times when you will have the most energy.

Out of the 3 recreational features, I do think that Area calculation would be the most useful. Only because you can use it as a tracker and avoid getting lost, or getting to know a specific area before you go out and run. With the Forerunner 55’s reliable location sensor’s , you’ll be able to have peace of mind and not worry about where you are.

As for the other 2 features, I don’t think they are used much but could be useful to some. I will let you be the judge on that.

I hope you found this article useful. If you are looking to upgrade to a Forerunner 55 or looking to purchase one, I hope this article helped make your decision more clearer. Thank you so much for reading and checking out my other articles on the Forerunner 55, and the Forerunner 255.
