Fitbit Luxe : Water Proof?, Has 50m Water Resistance is this Ideal?

If you’re looking for a slim and stylish fitness tracker, the Fitbit Luxe might be just what you’re looking for. Released in April 2021, this tracker has a water resistance of 50m, making it perfect for swimming or other water activities. But does that mean it’s waterproof? Let’s take a closer look at the Fitbit Luxe’s water resistance and find out!

1. Fitbit Luxe Water Resistance was not Tested using the International Standards

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has a specific standard (22810 : 2010) that must be followed in order to test the water resistance of a device. This test includes exposing the device to both static and dynamic water pressures, as well as testing for leakage. The Fitbit Luxe has not been tested using this standard, so we can’t say for sure whether or not it is truly water resistant.

However, that doesn’t mean the Fitbit Luxe isn’t water-resistant. The company does state that the tracker is safe to wear in the shower, pool, and ocean. So while we can’t say definitively that the Fitbit Luxe is waterproof, it is certainly water-resistant.

2. Does it Matter if the Fitbit Luxe was not tested using the ISO Water Resistance Standards?

The ISO 22810 : 2010 was created as assurance to anyone who is buying the product. The test is to make sure the product will work as intended. With that being said, it does not mean that the product will not work if it has not been tested to the ISO standard.

Also a manufacturer have the ISO standards will bring a sense of trust that they are true to their words.

So does it matter? Maybe not to some people but it does show that the company is being truthful about their product.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you whether or not you want to buy a product that has or hasn’t been tested to the ISO standard.

However ISO can be expensive to maintain, so maybe Fitbit has decided not to go through with it?, who knows. But after hours of research, I could not find any information on Fitbit’s water testing regime and see if it is similar to ISO 2810 : 2010.

Am I sceptical of the water resistance rating?, I may have to answer that question at a later date once I source more information. You should always trust your gut instincts when it comes to these things.

3. Some Tips to Look Out for to Keep your Fitbit Luxe Water Resistant

Here are some tips to help you maintain its water resistance capabilities. Although water resistance is not permanent, it can diminish over time. It would be good practise to follow these tips to get good value out of your device

  • Avoid exposing your Fitbit Luxe to chemicals such as lotions, perfumes, shower gels, soaps. It wont happen when brand new, but if continuously expose your device to these types of chemicals if can reduce the effectiveness of the water proofing seal. If exposed to these types of chemicals, rinse off with fresh water then dry it off with a lint free towel.
  • Avoid exposing your Fitbit Luxe to hot water, steam, or saunas. Thermal expansion of material can be bad. In a warmer water environment the material can expand. Therefore may reduce the level of water resistance for that moment. In cooler water environments the material contracts, and therefore may return to it’s original water resistance level.
  • Avoid dropping your Fitbit Luxe. This also apply to any type of impact against the watch as well, like hitting the watch against a solid object. The shock or vibration that the watch absorbs will reduce the level of water resistance. The heavier the impact, the quicker your water resistance diminishes.
  • Rinse and Dry your Fitbit Luxe after a Intense Workout : When you are doing physical activity your body temperature rises. The skin contact again the watch can form condensation. Don’t allow the condensation to settle between the skin and device, as it may generate moisture in device. Once your work out is done, take off device, rinse it off with fresh water, and dry with a lint free towel.
  • If your Fitbit Luxe is exposed to salt water, dont allow the salt water to settle on your device. Be sure to wash it off with fresh water and dry it off with a lint free towel.
  • Make sure the tracker is fully dry before charging it or putting it back on.
  • Do not press any buttons while the tracker is wet : water may ingress when you apply a small amount of pressure to interact with your device
  • If the tracker gets wet, remove it from your wrist and rinse it off with fresh water.
  • Don’t expose your Fitbit Luxe to High pressure water : Example’s of this is fast water currents or any fast water flow against the watch. This is where the water lock feature stops your device from working when the device is under pressure, as it can cause slight confusion.

4. Is the Fitbit Luxe Water Resistance Ideal for You?

Well the great thing about the Fitbit Luxe is that it is a slim tracker. It doesn’t have all the features like the Fitbit flagship devices. The Fitbit Luxe is literally stripped down to the bare bones. Just a basic fitness tracker, that’s all it is, and there is definitely a market for these devices because some people just want a basic tracker without paying extra money for features that they not going to use. That is a definite benefit.

Is it Ideal for you? If you are after a tracker that just tracks steps, workouts, and basic health metrics then in my opinion yes. It doesn’t matter if the Fitbit Luxe does not meet the ISO water resistance. For what it is, it’s good enough to do the job for you.

The bottom line is that the Fitbit Luxe is a great slim tracker for people who just want to track their steps, workouts, and basic health metrics. If you are looking for a more feature-rich device, then you may want to consider one of Fitbit’s other devices. However, if you are looking for a simple and basic tracker, then the Fitbit Luxe is a great option for you.
