Fitbit Inspire 3 : Excellent Battery Life

The battery life of the Fitbit Inspire 3 is very impressive.   When it comes to battery life the Fitbit Inspire 3 is right up there with the Huawei Band 7.  This is fantastic news for anyone who is looking for a general fitness tracker or anyone who want to upgrade.

To get an idea of how good the battery life is for the Fitbit Inspire 3, I would share with you my typical usage.  This is very consistent on what I do every week, so it will give you an idea of what your typical usage is like.  Please also note that this is how I measure the battery life to all fitness trackers and smart watch’s that I test.  Here is my typical usage

  • 120-130 minutes of activity
  • AOD 100 times a day (average)
  • 10 messages per day
  • 300 minutes of sleep tracking

That’s a lot of tracking daily, and after gathering all the information the Fitbit Inspire 3 have pulled in some good and not so good numbers, I think you need to know.

  • Average battery consumption rate based on my typical usage is 8%
  • Battery recharge rate is 1 minute and 40 seconds per 1% of battery charged.
  • Time to fully charge Fitbit Inspire 3 from 0 to 100% is 167 minutes (2.5 hours)

In this article I will go over each of the bullet points and explain in detail of all my research findings about the Fitbit Inspire 3.

Average Battery Consumption Rate is Very Impressive

I was very surprised at the battery consumption rate of the Fitbit Inspire 3.  It’s about level par with the Huawei Band 7.  The big battery drainers that you need to know are as follows:

  • Heart rate tracking
  • AOD (always on display)
  • Auto messaging
  • Phone calls
  • GPS tracking (GPS tracking not available in Fitbit Inspire 3)

Based on my experience with the Fitbit Inspire 3, the major battery drainers are not an issue.  Based on my average consumption rate I would burn 8% battery life per day.  If I was to predict by battery life based on my numbers, I would get around 10 days battery life, which isn’t too bad. There is no location sensor built in the Fitbit Inspire 3 such as GPS tracking.  If built in, then the battery consumption rate will be higher and be in the same range as the Fitbit Charge 5 which Is around 9 to 10% battery consumption.

I did do a GPS tracking test, and the battery life of my Samsung Galaxy S10+ drained quickly.  If you are planning to use the GPS tracking from your phone just be aware of that.

I also noticed too that the battery consumption rate was the same on days that I wasn’t active.  My assumption was that the algorithm to track exercises would burn more battery life, but in this case, it wasn’t to be.

Here is a comparison of Fitness trackers I have recently tested based on battery consumption rate, based on my typical usage

I thought I add one of the worst watch’s when it comes to battery consumption, which is the Galaxy Watch 4.  I often charge the Galaxy Watch 4 on the third day and sometimes every second day.  The main reason why the battery usage is so high is because I would use at least 30-60 minutes of GPS tracking for hiking and running.

Recharge & Charging Rates Are Okay but Could Be Better

The battery consumption rate is very economical, and that ‘s a good thing if this is what you are after in a fitness tracker.  For some recharge rates don’t matter but you must charge your device at some stage so it’s good to know when to expect your device to be fully charged.

In regards to the Fitbit Inspire 3 the recharge rate is about par with a lot of the fitness trackers on the market.  To charge 1% of battery on the Fitbit Inspire 3 will take at least 1 minute and 40 seconds.  To fully charge the Fitbit Inspire 3 from 0% will take 167 minutes.

Here is a list of fitness trackers / smart watch’s and how the Fitbit Inspire 3 compares

  • Huawei Band 7: 21 seconds per 1% which equates to 35 minutes to fully charge from zero
  • Huawei Watch Fit 2: 60 seconds per 1% which equates to 60 minutes to fully charge from zero
  • Huawei Watch GT 3: 60 seconds per 1% which equates to 60 minutes to fully charge from zero
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4: 120 seconds per 1% which equates to 120 minutes to fully charge from zero.
  • Fitbit Inspire 3: 1 minute 40 seconds per 1% which equates to 167 minutes to fully charge from zero.

Conclusion

Just like it’s predecessor’s the Fitbit Inspire 3s battery life is very good.  In my opinion, it’s not about the available battery capacity that determines good battery life.  It’s about how well the watch can manage the energy consumption when in use.  When this is properly managed the battery life will be excellent.  Which is why I have provided some data which I know will be useful before you decide to purchase.

I also think that the average consumption rate would be useful to anyone that’s very active.  I mean, I consider myself as an average fitness goer, but there are many people out there whose typical usage is a lot higher than mine.
